Once Upon A Time

As women, I think we would ultimately like to have the fairytale ending where we find our prince/princess charming and ride off into the sunset. When I divorced my husband in 2007, it took me a few years to get back on my horse in my quest for romance. When I did, the old adage “you have to kiss a few frogs” certainly applied.  Well… maybe they weren’t exactly frogs, but those experiences weren’t exactly love stories either.

Dating again can be scary, but it can also be fun. It’s all in the attitude.  Ultimately, you may have a good tale or two in the end. Here is one of mine - April

Mrs. Robinson, I Find You Very Desirable

After being married for 20 years, you forget how to meet people, to date and to be single. When you divorce from a bad marriage, you even forget how to kiss passionately. So many strange phenomenon await you. What really surprised me was my daughters’ twenty-something year old male friends trying to hit on me. What’s up with that? They are too young to have even watched The Graduate or to know who Mrs. Robinson is. I was not the least bit intrigued by the prospect of any man cub or boy toy getting into my “Mom jeans”. I felt like they figured I was so desperate that I would just give them experienced, mind blowing sex without strings attached or intellectual dialogue. I could just imagine them sending Instagram messages to their bros about my hormonally age enhanced hips and thighs. Don’t they know I wanna lay next to my lover after sex and say “hey remember Space Food Sticks and Tang?” Or, maybe sing “Go See Cal, Go See Cal, Go See Cal” together.

April is a 54 year old divorcee. She is a native Californian who graduated from United States International University with honors.
