Seize the Day!

Do you know those days when you feel a stirring in your heart. Perhaps you have dusted off a bicycle recently because of that stirring. Maybe you have sat in your car watching the ocean waves at sunset. For me recently it was to take a walk along the Matanuska River. You need to understand that sometimes the glacial winds from the Matanuska Glacier sends cold icy winds, now in May the winds stir up the river dust. On two particular evenings the last week of April, it was calm, sunny and the river called. Literally I was compelled to go down to the river after a long, stressful day working from home.

The next thing I knew I was walking along the river bed, grateful the snow was gone yet there was a different quality when walking. It was porous, it was moving and then I realized it was ice crystals. Was it the months of cold, the layers of snow, the presence of the cold icy river that caused them to take shape? I was enamored. They were so uniformed, so organized, so beautiful & so fleeting.

The crystals only revealed themselves after the snow melted. 2 weeks later all trace of winter is long gone. I felt like Anna on a Disney Frozen landscape. The 8 year old in me played with ice crystals with a delight I wasn’t expecting. I think it was the beautiful organization and symmetry of the ice crystals that allowed me to rest, to trust that I am Ok in the midst of the all the world changes. I am adapting as I should.
